Here is an Old Reading Ale Cardboard Sign from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This Old Reading Ale Cardboard Sign is from the 1940’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. The graphics on this Old Reading Ale Sign show the brewery’s mascot known as “Old Gus” drinking a pint of beer inform the an old beer keg barrel. Old Reading Gus was used in a lot of the brewery’s advertising from 1933 – 1961 era.
This Old Reading Cardboard Sign is unlike any cardboard sign I have ever seen before, in that the front is made of a paper-thin layer of wood veneer with the graphics printed on top via screen printing or lithography. It has a fold-out easel on the back and would stand the sign up or could easily be hung on the wall. Old Reading Ale was only produced from 1933 – 1950 by the Old Reading Brewery; so there isn’t too much out there in terms of advertising of this style of beer.
