Here is a Old Reading Beer Cooler Tap Knob from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This Old Reading Beer Cooler Tap Knob is different from other standard tap knobs in that it would have been mounted on the handle of cooler doors behind the bar. The square shaped female shank would have slipped right onto the cooler handle making it easier to open the coolers and mark where bottled beer was stored plus gave another area behind the bar where the brewery could advertise their products.
Not to many breweries produced cooler knobs like these. Both the Old Reading Brewery and the Barbey’s Sunshine Brewery produced cooler knobs to promote their beer in bars and taverns. Some with single sided graphics like this one, while others had smaller button-sized graphics on the back.
