The Continental Can Company was founded by Edwin Norton T.G. Cranwell in 1904 located in Stanford, CT. They began and a food and beverage canning manufacturer primarily for fruits and vegetables. By 1936, they were producing cone top and flat top beer cans for various breweries across the country.

They did have completion from another canning company by the name of American Can Company located in Manhattan, NY. Continental acquired the patents of United Machinery Company, one of the few companies producing can-making machinery that had not been bought by American Can. CCC began shipping products in 1905.
