Here is a Columbia River Salmon Tin from the Astoria Clatsop Company located in Astoria, OR. This Columbia River Salmon Tin Can dates from about the late 1880s era and is in excellent condition considering how old it is. The tin is completely intact and is an “air-filled” sample, probably used as a sample proof can provided to the Astoria Clatsop Company prior to production.
Fun Fact:
In 1905, the US government passed a law that required all containers to list the weight of its contents starting in 1906; with that in-mind, this salmon tin dates pre-1906. Our best guess is it dates somewhere between 1890-1895.
