Here is an Old Reading Gus Statue from the Old Reading Brewery Inc. located in Reading, PA. This Old Reading Gus Statue is from the 1930s era and is in very good condition considering how old it is.
This statue was manufactured by the Alexander Corporation located in Philadelphia, PA. It’s approximately 12″ tall and is made of painted chalkware, similar to plaster. Chalkware statues like this one would have been displayed on the bar top or on the bar back to advertise Old Reading Beer Ale Porter to patrons. The character’s name was Old Gus, he’s depicted as an older Pennsylvania Dutch Brewmaster of the Old Reading Brewery Inc. and was pictured on a lot of the brewery’s advertising dating from 1933 into the 1950’s.
