Leinenkugel Beer Gillco Lighted Sign

posted in: Spotlight | 0

Here is a Leinenkugel Beer Gillco Lighted Sign from the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company located in Chippewa Falls, WI.  This Leinenkugel Beer Sign is from the 1940’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. This sign is approximately 10.5″ x 15″.  It is made of a back-lit, reverse-painted glass lens, and is mounted on a metal base. The graphics used on this sign are of the Leinenkugel Brewery’s trademark Indian Girl and the Waterfall which was used in a lot of the advertising that the brewery produced during the time all the way to present.

This Leinenkugel Beer Gillco Lighted Sign was made by the Gillco Glass Sign Company located in Philadelphia, PA. This style of sign is known as a gillco cab light or gillco taxi light because of the similarity of an actual taxi cab light.  Cab lights like these were meant to be displayed inside of a tavern or distributor on the bar back to advertise the the brewery or product; this one being Chippewa’s Pride Beer from the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company.

Gillco Glass Sign Company also made another lighted gillco sign variation for the Leinenkugel Brewery in the form of a “saucer” lighted sign; click here to view that variation. Signs like this variation were meant to be hung from the ceiling and sometimes even hung outside of the bar, tavern, or distributor over top of the entrance of the establishment to advertise Leinenkugel Beer.
