Here is a Lowenbrau Muenchen Lighted Sign from the Lowenbrau Brewery located in Munich, Germany.  This Lowenbrau Muenchen Lighted Sign is from the 1930’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age.

This Lowenbrau Lighted Sign was made by the Gillco Glass Sign Company located in Philadelphia, PA.  It is approximately 15″ wide and is made of 2 pieces of reverse-painted glass mounted on a cast metal body and held together with a tension ring.  The graphic panel of glass is fired-on enamel reverse painted glass while the back panel is painted silver and serves as a reflector for the inner bulb to light the sign.  The graphics on this gillco beer sign portray the Lowenbrau Lion in the center with two paper scrolls reading “Imported” and “Est. 1383” along with the bottom bar reading Lowenbrau Muenchen.  Signs like these would have been displayed as bar back displays to advertise Lowenbrau Beer to patrons.

There are actually 2 variation of this Lowenbrau Gillco Beer Sign; the difference being the other variation is mounted on a blue body with claw feet and the graphic panel is slightly different with a blue background behind the lion graphic; click here to view the other variation. I am actively looking for that variation, please contact me if you have one.
