Here is an Old Reading Beer Gus Sign from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This Old Reading Gus Sign is from the 1940’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. The size of this Old Reading Beer Sign is approximately 20″ X 12″; it is made of a 5 color printed lithograph on cardboard and framed in a thin black wooden frame.
The old men characters on this Old Reading sign is of the Old Reading brewery’s mascot known as “Old Gus”. Old Gus was used in a variety of Old Reading Brewery advertising signs, coaster, and labels from the mid 1930’s to the 1950’s era. The scene in this Old Reading Beer Gus Sign is of a parade of Gus’s marching through a German-styled town toasting beer and marching to the beat of a drum.
There are actually 4 variations of this Old Reading Gus Sign all using the same 5 colors but with different scenes and graphics. Originally, signs like this Old Reading Beer Gus Sign wouldn’t have glass overtop but I reframed with glass to help protect this rare sign.
