Here is a Rams Head Beer Glass Sign from the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company located in Philadelphia, PA. This Rams Head Beer Glass Sign is from the 1940’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. This glass sign was made by the Beeco Inc. Sign Manufacturing Company located in Chicago, IL.
This glass sign is considered an ROG or Reverse-Over-Glass sign. I’ve also heard them referred to as a reverse painted sign because the glass is either painted or printed reverse on the back of the sign and backed with cardboard like this Rams Head Beer Sign is. They also used to fire on the paint in a kiln but that was reserved for signs that would have a light bulb placed behind the sign to make the sign glow.
ROG glass signs like this one are getting harder and harder to find these days because glass usually doesn’t last the test of time especially when in a bar surrounded by a bunch of drunks. This sign is in very good condition with only a few chips on the edges. I’m very happy to have it in my collection.
