Here is a Lauer Brewing Lager Sign from the Lauer Brewing Company located in Reading, PA.  This Lauer Brewing Lager Sign is from the late 1800’s era and is in very good condition for it’s age.

This Lauer Sign was made by the Chas W. Shonk Company located in Chicago, IL and is approximately 20″ by 30″ and is made of gold and black painted metal.  This style Chas W. Shonk sign is known as a “shield sign” also known as a “duotone sign”.  Sign like this one would have been displayed outside of a tavern attached to the siding to advertising Lauer Brewing Company’s Lager Beer to patrons. The graphics on this sign depict a stemmed beer glass surrounded by a wreath of hops and wheat with the lettering located atop and below the graphics.

There are actually two variations of this tuchfarber “shield” sign; the other variation is slightly large and includes 4 gold medallions that represent award winning beer. I am actively looking for the other variation of this sign to add to my collection, if you have one please contact me. There is also a smaller colored Lauer Beer Sign variation as well, click here to view the one in my personal collection.
