Here is an Old Reading Brewing Lithograph from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA.  This Old Reading Brewing Lithograph is from 1938 and is in excellent condition considering how old it is. The condition of this lithograph is exquisite with the use of very bright and vibrant colors. A lithograph like this would have definitely been expensive to print back in the 1930s.  Signs like these were most likely displayed in the brewery for visitors to view or displayed at your local beer distributor.

This lithograph is approximately 32″ by 48″ and would have been displayed on the wall of a tavern to advertise Old Reading Beer.  The graphics on this litho depict the the Old Reading Brewery’s “Santi-Wort” brewing process illustrated with “Old Gus”. Old Reading’s “Old Gus” was a little Pennsylvania Dutch fellow who was part of the brewery’s marketing efforts appearing in various advertising campaigns from approximately 1934 up until 1953.

The illustrated brewing process includes:

  1. Malt
  2. Brewing Water
  3. Cereal
  4. Mash-Lauter Tub
  5. Kettle
  6. Hop Strainer
  7. Hot Wort & Aerating Tanks
  8. Wort Cooler
  9. Starting Cellars
  10. Fermenting Cellars
  11. Laboratory Control
  12. Ageing Tanks

I am actively pursuing other Old Reading Brewery “Old Gus” advertising items to add to my collection.
