Mt Joy, PA
The R&R Electric Corporation was established in 1930 located in Mt Joy, PA. R&R Electric started out as a manufacturer of electric components, radio knobs, and early beer tap knobs. The knobs products that they produced were all made of a bakelite material that was very popular at the time and used in different industries.
As breweries began to start back up from the national prohibition in 1933 there were various new regulations on breweries across the country. The United States government mandated that all beer that is served in taverns, cafes, hotels, and distributors had to be properly marked; ball tap knobs were the solution for this new government regulation.
R&R Electric Corporation was contracted by breweries across the country to produce bakelite ball tap knobs to mark their products of beer, ale, and porter. These beer ball tap knobs were some of the earliest versions of tap handles produced at the time. These knobs consisted of a bakelite body with a riveted painted metal face on the top of the knob. At the time, various breweries decided to contract them to produce tap markers for them; breweries like Sprenger, Daeufer, Flock, and Boyertown just to name a few. They are still in business to this day as RSR Electric and are still local to Mt Joy, PA.
Below are a few examples of tap knobs that they produced:
