We are proud to be the new stewards of this fine piece of local history, a Crystal Cave Porcelain Sign produced for Crystal Cave located just outside of Kutztown, PA.  It’s unknown how old this Crystal sign is but we can assume sometime between 1920s and 1930s era.  This sign would have been a roadside directional sign to advertise Crystal Cave as a tourist attraction.

The graphics and text on this sign read “See Crystal Cave” and “Pennsylvania’s Greatest Natural Underground Wonder Between Allentown and Reading”.  It is made of yellow and black porcelain-enamel over steel.  It has a makers mark at the bottom that reads “Balto Enamel” which is short for Baltimore Enamel & Novelty Company with offices in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA.

The attraction of Crystal Cave was established in 1872 and is still in operation to this day.  If you’re interested in learning more about this cave attraction, click here to visit their website.
