Here is a Star Beer Coaster from the Penn Star Brewing Company (formerly Penn State Brewing Company / Rieker Brewing Company) located in Lancaster, PA. This Star Beer Coaster is from between 1933 to 1935 and is in excellent condition considering how old it is.
This coaster is approximately 4″ wide and was made by the Lion Match Company located in New York City, NY. The graphics and typography on this coaster depict The Penn Star Brewery “Star” insignia and the script text “Star Beer”. Across the bottom it reads “Penn Star Brewery”, “Formerly Rieker’s”, and “Lancaster, PA”.
I find it interesting that it reads “Formerly Rieker’s” because that was not true. Prior to changing its name to Penn Star Brewery in 1933, it was called Penn State Brewing Company. I believe they were forced to change the name as it was copywritten under Penn State University. So they went under the name Penn State Brewery for a very short time after the end of prohibition in 1933.
